Association between Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)




Diagnosis of PCOS
(Rotterdam diagnostic criteria)
q  Oligomenorrhoea and/ or anovulation
q  Clinical (Hirsutism) or biochemical hyperandrogenism
q  Polycystic ovaries presence of >12 follicles of 2-9 mm or ovarian volume >10 mL
                                      
Diagnosis of Hypothyroidism
q  Measurement of Serum TSH level
  • Higher than 4mIU/ml
PCOS & Hypothyroidism are they related?
q  Women with PCOS often have abnormal thyroid function
q  Hypothyroidism is also associated with anovulation & infertility in female
q  Menstrual abnormalities in Hypothyroidism leads to Infertility
